Giggs believes Chelsea youngster needs loaning

Wales national team boss Ryan Giggs has advised Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu to leave Stamford Bridge in order to take his club career to the next level.

The 18-year-old is highly rated and has already made six appearances for the Dragons. However, he has only featured in five competitive games for Chelsea in all competitions this season, which were all cup matches. He has not made a single Premier League appearance this term.

Wales Boss Giggs Believes Chelsea Youngster Would Benefit From Loan

Speaking about the promising defender, Giggs said, as quoted by Goal“He’s played the odd Europa [League] game or cup game for Chelsea and, because of that talent, I can see Sarri wants him around the first team.”

“But it’s just been a bit stop-start, together with the injuries, which is frustrating because he is an amazing talent and he’s shown that in the games he’s played.

“We’ve had players in the same situation – David Brooks, Harry Wilson, Ben Woodburn – talented players who’ve gone out on loan and benefited from it. But if he can force himself into that Chelsea squad then that would be great.”

Since being integrated into the Blues’ first team in 2017, Ampadu has only featured in one top-flight fixture for the side and this came in December 2017 when he came on during the 80th minute in a game against Huddersfield.

It is clear Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri does not see Ampadu part of his first-team plans – at least as far this season is concerned. The Exeter-born prospect still needs to hone his talent, so it would be a good move for the Blues to send him on a loan spell to a Championship or Premier League club this summer so that he can get more experience at the highest level – as well as build his confidence.

It remains to be seen, however, if the club will instead look to retain his services and play him more regularly next season. The Blues may have little choice but to integrate Ampadu into their first-team plans due to the two-window transfer ban they are set to face.
